very, much（很）、too，either（也）、ago，before（以前）是英語中容易見到的數對副詞，它們之間的使用方法各不相同，應加以分辨。

1 very, much很

very修飾形容詞、副詞的原級，而much修飾它們的比較級,通常來講very much修飾動詞。

注意

不可以按漢語語序說（）I very like English.

2 too，either也。

當也講時，too一般用于一定句，一般放在句末，否定句時用either。

You are a student. I am a student， too.

你是學生，我也是學生。

You aren't a teacher. I am not a teacher，either.

你不是老師，我更不是。

You are also a teacher.

你也是個老師。

She also wants to learn English.

她也想要學英語。

注意

also(也）是比too更為正式的用語，它的地方和頻度副詞的地方一樣。

3 ago，before以前

My grandfather died^{2 three years ago.}

我祖父三年前過世。

I said^{3 my grand1 father had4 died three years before.}

我祖父三年前就過世了。

1.ago是以目前為基準，指距今若干時間以前，ago不可以單獨用,應用three days（years， weeks）ago,并且和動詞的過去時連用。

I met our teacher an hour ago.

一小時前，我碰見了大家老師。

2.before之前有若干時間時，指距那時若干時間以前，和過去完成時連用。

He said he had finished^{5 the work two days before.}

過去的某個時間

他說，他二天前就把工作做完了。

（假如這句話沒過去的某個時間said，

則應為 He finished the work two days ago.）

3.before前面沒若干時間，即單獨用時，是泛指以前，常常和完成時連用。

I have seen^{6 the film before.}

我以前看過這部電影。

（） I have seen the film ago.

（這句話是以目前為基點，即說話時剛剛過去之前，所以時態用目前完成時，用before而不需要ago，且不加任何別的詞。假如 before后接其他詞如before dinner, before class，則此時的before是介詞，不是副詞。）
