除此之外，母親穿旗袍含義旗開得勝（succeed at the first try），父親穿馬褂含義馬到成功（gain an immediate victory），都是為了給參加考試的孩子討個好彩頭。

向日葵也成為了高考考試幸運花，由于中文葵[ku，sunflower]與魁[ku，head]同音。不少考生父母在考場外手舉向日葵等候，期望我們的孩子一舉奪魁（best the test in one fell swoop）。
